LSD or acid is a powerful hallucinogen that was initially discovered in 1938 and became an illegal drug as the risk of abuse and addiction occurred. According to surveys performed by Statista, 25.9% of 12th graders reported that getting LSD was “fairly easy”. The availability of the illegal drug has led to the abuse of acid and the need for LSD rehab centers.
There are no known withdrawal symptoms or physically addictive properties of LSD and an addiction to it is psychological, but nonetheless, requires LSD rehab to effectively treat. Mental addictions can be just as devastating to a person’s life as an addiction to something considered more physically addictive due to the effects it can have on a person’s family, social and professional lives. It can effect a person’s finances and behavior negatively which can lead to dangerous drug-seeking behavior.
LSD treatment programs are aimed at treating the addiction as a mental disorder with several aspects of the individual taken into account such as their history for addiction, co-occurring disorders and the environment the person finds themselves in.
The psychological level of the dependence to LSD can be treated through the use of several treatment methods including the following:
Inpatient programs are usually reserved for severe addiction that has otherwise been difficult to break. It involves a person staying at the rehab facility and taking part in various forms of treatment in a structured routine. While LSD addiction does not usually require such intensive treatment, some cases do warrant an inpatient treatment program. There is around-the-clock help available that can help patients that suffer from problems such as severe depression and no way to get more LSD on the premises which can help to prevent relapse during treatment.
For less severe addictions, people will generally seek outpatient rehab programs to treat their addiction to LSD. The addict would go to a facility where they will attend individual counseling sessions, group therapy and other programs that are aimed to help a person return to their normal behavior. It is advised to seek a rehab that is close by as there will be repeated visits to the premises. Through the assistance of professional care and treatment, the successful treatment for a LSD addiction can be achieved.
It is understood that a recovering addict will often be faced with situations where drug abuse may be triggered. These are situations such as drug-abusing friends visiting, loss of a job or loved one and a buildup of stress that can cause a person to consider drug abuse to deal with the situation. In rehab, a patient is taught what to do when these situations arise such as using techniques learned in treatment or seeking outside help from a sponsor or counselor.
